Do you struggle finding time for yourself to exercise regularly? Are your kids always needing something from you right when you start your workout? Next time that happens, here are 5 fun ways to exercise with your kids at home! Have them workout with you and make them feel a part of what you are doing!
We can get frustrated. We can say, “oh, forget it!”. Or, we can make the best of it and have fun with our kids while we get in a quick sweat!
Remember, it’s all about progress. Your workout routine won’t be perfect. That’s ok!
Let’s be real! Kids are amazing and teach us so many things; they bring such joy to our lives. However, those days of making your own schedule and doing your own thing are LONG gone:)
Our time is precious and we need to find ways to maximize it!
Alright! Here are 5 fun ways to exercise with your kids at home!
1.) Create an obstacle course!
Create a fun obstacle course to keep your kids entertained while you do your own workout! Whether that is a mini American Ninja Warrior course or a simpler version, make it exciting and engaging for your kids. Maybe even join in their fun too after your workout:)
If you have ever watched the show on Netflix called The Floor Is Lava, you can create a game like that for your kids to keep them occupied.
Lay out pillows, cushions, towels, etc. to create “stepping stones” for them all throughout your house. If they touch anything other than their “stepping stones” then they have to start over! The ground is officially lava!
2.) Play tag!
Yes, you can play tag! Get that heart rate up, let your kids chase you and you chase after them too!
Added bonus: Each time someone gets tagged, everyone has to do 10 squats, 20 jumping jacks and 20 walking lunges.
Take this game outside, to the park, anywhere where you all can run around and get your heart rate up!

3.) Go on a bike ride!
Get your kids out of the house and go on a family bike ride or run/power walk next to your kids while they ride their bikes. Throw in some exercises every so often to keep it fun!
Get your kids involved in those exercises too!
Here are some ideas!
- 15 squats every 1/4 mile
- Sprint 1/4 mile
- Jumping jacks for 30 seconds for every stop sign you see
- 15 step ups for every bench or playground you pass
- 40 mountain climbers every half 1/2 mile
Make this time fun and enjoyable for both you and your kids!
4.) Create a circuit workout!
Create different stations for each person and set a timer so that each station is 1 minute long. Take 10 seconds to rest and rotate to the next station and then keep going for 20 minutes!
Sample circuit:
- Squats
- Jumping jacks
- Push ups
- Lunges
- Run in place
5.) Go to the park and get creative!
Ok, so I know this one isn’t technically at home. However, you can still use the same concepts below to incorporate your kids into your workout!
Use the benches, swings, the open field to have fun! Tap into your creative and playful side as you enjoy the great outdoors, soak in that vitamin D and let your kids release some energy.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Step ups
- Bench lunges -back foot on bench
- Push ups w/ hands on bench
- Bench dips
