Eating healthy in general can be a real struggle. But eating healthy while “on the go” is a whole other level of struggle! As mamas there is so much on our plates, and so many expectations from those around us. I hope you find this list of healthy “on the go” meal options and modifications helpful to you!
As someone who is always trying to make healthy and quick meals, I am constantly in search of new ways to simplify my weekly menu. Sometimes, those ideas come in the form of eating out while “on the go”.
Now, I know how hard it is in today’s world to eat healthy. Not to mention the temptations that suck you in when you are doing your best to pick healthy “on the go” options. Just remember that you can always modify your order while eating out. Yes, my husband says I am little high maintenance when it comes to this, but that’s ok!
Remember you are doing it for the health of you and your family, and it’s ok to be a little high maintenance every now and then:)

Being mindful of the fuel you are putting in your body is one of the best things you can do for yourself. If you are not being intentional of how you fuel your body, then I encourage you to start here.
Once you shift your mindset in this area, the relationship you have with food will change. You will no longer see it as a crutch or comfort, but rather fuel for your body! Easier said than done. I know. It takes time, so don’t get discouraged.
Try to make today better than yesterday and give yourself some grace. You will slip up, you will eat something that you know you shouldn’t, but don’t give up!
My hope is that this list of “on the go” options and ways to modify your meals will help put some ease into your life and cause you to not overthink it.
Ok, here we go!
Chipotle
This is an obvious option for me because you can choose exactly what you want without being high maintenance:) No need to ask for substitutions because you get to choose what your meal consists of.
Salad & Go
Now, depending on where you live, I know this isn’t an option for everyone. However, if you do have a Salad & Go where you live, this is a great “on-the-go” healthy choice at a great price! Their salads are hearty and delicious, yet inexpensive. Always a plus when eating out. AND they serve ORGANIC food which is amazing!
In & Out
I bet you didn’t think this would be on the list:) But, yes, this can be a good “pick-me-up” with some modifications.
Of course, food from your own refrigerator is always best, but on those days you are running around and need a healthy choice, In & Out can be a treat every once and awhile.
Some modifications & things to consider:
⇒ Ask for your burger protein style. Meaning no bun!
⇒ Forget the fries, rather ask for 2 patties instead since you are getting it with no bun:)
⇒ Forget the sugary drinks
⇒ Skip the milkshakes

Whole Foods or Sprouts Salad Bar
Make yourself a salad and fill it with all the good stuff! A quick, easy and affordable option.
Original Chop Shop
This has to be one of my favorites! They offer everything from fresh vegetable juices, to gluten free wraps to quinoa protein bowls! There are so many healthy options here that you can feel good about eating. Give them a taste;) You won’t regret it!
More tips & tricks to consider no matter where you decide to eat:
⇒ Ask for a box at the beginning of your meal so you don’t over eat. Save half for dinner or your lunch the next day.
⇒ Skip the bread, bun or croutons.
⇒ Ask for water instead of sugary drinks.
⇒ CHEW your food. Don’t inhale it. Let it hit your taste buds before you swallow. I struggle most with this one:)
⇒ Skip the added cheese & toasted and sugary nuts they tend to add to salads.
⇒ Ask for the dressing on the side, or sub the dressing for olive oil and lemon juice.
As always, I hope this eases your mind and makes your decision-making a little less stressful when it comes to making healthy choices.
Try not to overthink it, and just make the best decision possible for you and your family in the moment.
Don’t beat yourself up if you get off track for a day.
